Quick answer
What will my salary be under the 8th Pay Commission?
Under the 8th Pay Commission, multiply your current basic pay by the fitment factor. At a 2.28 factor, Level 1 basic pay of ₹18,000 becomes about ₹41,000, and Level 7 pay of ₹44,900 becomes about ₹1,02,400. With DA reset to zero, the gross rise is smaller than the basic rise: about 49% for Level 1 in an X city.
- New basic = current basic × fitment factor, rounded to ₹100
- Fitment factor: not announced; 1.92–2.86 discussed, 2.57 under the 7th CPC
- Status: 8th CPC set up Nov 2025; report expected around mid-2027
How is the 8th Pay Commission salary calculated?
Your revised basic pay is your current basic pay multiplied by the fitment factor the Commission recommends. Dearness allowance is merged into the new basic and starts again from zero, so the increase in take-home pay is smaller than the jump in basic pay.
Example: Level 1, X city, fitment factor 2.28
Today: ₹18,000 basic + ₹10,800 DA (60%) + ₹5,400 HRA (30%) = ₹34,200. After revision: ₹41,000 basic + ₹9,840 HRA (24%) = ₹50,840, an increase of about 48.7%.
What does the DA merger mean for your salary?
When a new pay commission takes effect, dearness allowance is expected to be merged into the revised basic pay and restart from zero, as it did under the 7th CPC. DA is 60% of basic today, so your current basic plus DA is already 1.6 times your basic. A fitment factor only adds to your pay by the amount it goes above that.
HRA changes too. It is 30%, 20% and 10% of basic now, because DA is above 50%. After a DA merger this calculator assumes 24%, 16% and 8%, the rates used when DA reset under the 7th CPC. The 8th CPC may set different rates.
| Fitment factor | New basic | New basic + HRA | Rise on ₹34,200 |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1.92 | ₹34,600 | ₹42,904 | 25.5% |
| 2.28 | ₹41,000 | ₹50,840 | 48.7% |
| 2.57 | ₹46,300 | ₹57,412 | 67.9% |
| 2.86 | ₹51,500 | ₹63,860 | 86.7% |
How do you use the 8th Pay Commission calculator?
- Pick your 7th CPC pay level, or enter your exact basic pay if you are above the entry pay
- Pick a fitment factor from the figures being discussed, or type your own
- Choose your city class (X, Y or Z) for HRA, and check the current DA
You’ll see your revised basic pay, new gross salary and the increase. Every figure is an estimate until the government notifies the final pay matrix.
Frequently asked questions
When will the 8th Pay Commission be implemented?
The 8th Central Pay Commission, chaired by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, was set up in November 2025 with 18 months to report, so its recommendations are expected around mid-2027. The revision is widely expected to apply from 1 January 2026, but no date has been officially fixed.

What will the minimum salary be under the 8th Pay Commission?
It depends on the fitment factor. The current minimum basic pay of ₹18,000 becomes about ₹41,000 at a 2.28 factor, ₹46,300 at 2.57 and ₹51,500 at 2.86. The staff side has demanded ₹69,000.
What happens to DA after the 8th Pay Commission?
DA (currently 60% from 1 Jan 2026) is expected to be merged into the new basic pay and restart from zero, as happened under the 7th CPC.
What will Level 7 pay be under the 8th Pay Commission?
Estimated only: Level 7 entry pay of ₹44,900 becomes about ₹86,200 at a 1.92 fitment factor, ₹1,02,400 at 2.28, ₹1,15,400 at 2.57 and ₹1,28,400 at 2.86.
