Quick answer
How is exact age calculated?
Exact age is the number of completed years, then completed months, then remaining days between your date of birth and a chosen date. For example, someone born on 15 August 1995 is 31 years, 2 months and 6 days old on 21 October 2026.
- Exam age: UPSC CSE checks age on 1 August of the exam year
- Leap years: a 29 February birthday counts on 28 February in other years
- Privacy: the calculation runs only in your browser
How do I use this age calculator by date of birth?
Enter your date of birth. The “age on” date is set to today, so you see your exact age straight away. This DOB calculator then shows:
- your age in completed years, months and days
- your age in total months, weeks, days and hours
- the weekday you were born on
- a countdown in days to your next birthday
- your Western zodiac sign
For someone born on 15 August 1995, the answer on 21 October 2026 is 31 years, 2 months and 6 days. They were born on a Tuesday, and their next birthday is 298 days away.
How is age calculated?
Your age is counted in completed years, then completed months, then the remaining days. When the day of the month in the “age on” date is smaller than your birth day, the calculator borrows the length of the previous month.
Example: born 15 August 1995
On 21 October 2026 the age is 31 years, 2 months and 6 days, or 11,390 days in total.
What if you were born on 29 February?
In years without a leap day, the calculator treats 28 February as your birthday. Someone born on 29 February 2000 turns 27 on 28 February 2027, so on 21 October 2026 their birthday countdown shows 130 days.
How do I check my age for an exam cut-off date?
Government exams in India check your age on a fixed cut-off date, not on the day you apply. UPSC CSE uses 1 August of the exam year. SSC and bank exams state their own dates in each notification. Set “Age on” to that date to see whether you’re within the limit.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate my exact age from my date of birth?
Subtract your birth year, month and day from today’s date. If the day is negative, borrow the days of the previous month; if the month is negative, borrow 12 months from the year. The calculator above does this for you instantly.
Does the age calculator handle leap years?
Yes. It uses real calendar dates, so leap years are counted correctly. In non-leap years a 29 February birthday is counted on 28 February.
How do I check my age for UPSC or SSC eligibility?
Set “Age on” to the cut-off date in the exam notification, such as 1 August of the exam year for UPSC CSE. The result shows your exact age on that date.
Can I find my age on a future date?
Yes. Pick any date in “Age on”, such as an exam cut-off, a retirement date or a future birthday.
Is my date of birth saved?
No. The calculation happens in your browser and nothing is sent to Ganakly’s servers.
How many days old am I?
The calculator shows your total days lived, which is the “age on” date minus your date of birth. Someone born on 15 August 1995 has lived 11,390 days on 21 October 2026, or 1,627 complete weeks.
What day of the week was I born?
Enter your date of birth and the calculator shows the weekday under “Born on a”. For example, 15 August 1995 was a Tuesday.
